STRESS MANAGEMENT---1 Even Yam

Stress is a common problem for urban dwellers. Those who are studying in university have to face a high level of stress which comes from learning in a new environment, social life with new friends and living away from family….etc . However, if university students can handle the stress well, they can have a happy university life. The matter is how to handle it “well”---that is good stress management.

When you want to manage something well, you must understand the nature of it. Stress comes from many external forces and then they are internalized as anxiety which is harmful to either or both your body physically and your mind mentally. This harmfulness is not only depends on the impacts from outside world but also the loading ability of oneself. For example, a big man of 82 kilogram (=180 pounds) who carries a load of 50 kilogram (=110 pounds) will not cause any heavy burden or stress to him while a young man of 58 kilogram (= 128 pounds) who carries the same load of 50 kilogram (=110 pounds) will surely collapse.

On the other hand, the loading ability of oneself is also a crucial factor for the harmfulness of stress. The loading ability may be changed from time to time. It sometimes depends on the mental hygiene and the emotional status of oneself. If one always thinks positively, his loading ability may be higher. Certainly, pessimistic people must have lower loading ability to stress. As a result, the same problem may be a stress to someone but not necessary to the others. Every individual is unique. There is no comparison among individuals. Never ask why the examination is stress to me or why the project presentation is stress to her.

Here are some tips for managing stress. Their effectiveness is not the same to everyone. Some of the tips are influential to some people but the other tips are good to the others. One should try out which is or are helpful.

1. To reduce the unnecessary burden
[/u]One should arrange the priority of his concerns. Some concerns sometimes are unnecessary loadings. If one can put them in different tiers for priority, the stress may be dispersed across various levels. This avoids focusing all concerns in one burden and eases the loading of the stress.

2. To bawl to the air
One can release one’s stress by bawling. One can go out to an open area for bawling without disturbing the others. The other way is to bawl against a big paper cone that is rolled by newspaper so that one need not go out to the place where less people are disturbed. A good bawl usually makes one feel better.
3. To take a walk
One can go out for a walk which is helpful for better breath rate and blood circulation by watching nature and enjoying breeze. Sometime, one may not be allowed to go out for a walk. One may do some exercises in gymnasium. This physical exercises help to defocus one from the stress.

4. To talk to someone
One can tell his friend about the problem one is facing. The listener is not necessary one’s close friend. One can talk to someone who can either share the negative feeling inside or who can just share some pieces of daily life. The listener need not be someone who can help to solve one’s problem but is just a person who one can talk to and shift to better things that relax it.
